I refer to your information request dated 16 September 2022 made under the Official Information 
Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested information in relation to entry to the University’s Bachelor 
of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme via the Graduate General and Graduate Rural sub-categories. 
 
Please see below our responses to each of your questions.

Subject to the following comments, please see the below table which shows the minimum weighted 
GPAs to receive first-round offers to enter the BDS programme from 2020 – 2022 via the Graduate 
General and Graduate Rural sub-categories: 
 
•  please note that not all applicants accept their offers to enter the programme. 
 
•  we note that there were fewer than 5 applicants to receive first-round offers to enter the 
BDS programme from 2020 – 2022 via the Graduate Rural sub-category. We have 
determined that it is necessary to withhold these minimum weighted GPAs in order to 
protect the privacy and wellbeing of the student(s) concerned. This is consistent with section 
9(2)(a) of the Act.

*in 2021, a small number of unfilled places emerged once classes had commenced. In seeking to fill these 
places, the minimum weighted GPA to receive an offer was 6.85. 
 
9.  What the UCAT cut-off was for the applicants 
 
The BDS UCAT criteria is set annually by the University’s Dental Admissions Committee.  
 
2020: 
•  Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at the bottom 20th percentile (scores in the top 80% met the 
threshold) 
•  Decision Making: threshold set at the bottom 57th percentile (scores in the top 43% met the 
threshold) 
•  Situational Judgement: threshold set at the bottom 10th percentile (scores in the top 90% 
met the threshold) 
•  Scores for Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning were not considered 
 
2021: 
•  Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at the bottom 25th percentile (scores in the top 75% met the 
threshold) 
•  Decision Making: score of 640 and above met the threshold

•  Situational Judgement: threshold set at the bottom 10th percentile (scores in the top 90% 
met the threshold) 
 
2022: 
•  Verbal Reasoning: threshold set at the bottom 22nd percentile (scores in the top 78% met the 
threshold) 
•  Decision Making: score of 630 and above met the threshold 
•  Scores for Situational Judgement, Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning were not 
considered
