I refer to your information request dated 3 September 2022 (clarified on 8 September 2022 and 13 
September 2022) made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act). You have requested mark 
and grade distributions for the CELS191, CHEM191, HUBS191, PHSI191, BIOC192, HUBS192, 
POPH192 and STAT115 papers from 2020 – 2022. 
 
I note that the original due date for your request was Thursday 6 October 2022. However, with the 
passing of the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day Act 2022, Memorial Day (26 September 2022) was 
not considered a ‘working day’ for the purposes of the Act. 
 
 
Subject to the following comments, please find attached the information that you have requested. 
Please note that there are three sheets in the attached document (one for each year). 
 
•  we note we emailed you 8 September 2022 to clarify whether you were interested in 
receiving the grade and mark distributions for students who were enrolled in Health 
Sciences First Year (HSFY) only, or whether you were interested in receiving the grade and 
mark distributions for all students enrolled in the papers, regardless of programme. Your 
response of 8 September 2022 confirmed that you were interested in receiving the 
information for students enrolled in HSFY only. Accordingly, the attached data contains the 
mark and grade distributions for students who were enrolled in HSFY only. 
 
•  please note that differences in the number of students enrolled in the papers between 
Semester One and Semester Two can be due to students moving out of the HSFY 
programme between semesters. Therefore, a student may be included in the Semester 1 
data but not included in the Semester 2 data as they have changed programmes between 
semesters. 
 
•  we note that BIOC192, HUBS192, POPH192 and STAT115 are Semester Two papers. 
Accordingly, we decline providing the 2022 grade and mark breakdowns for these papers 
pursuant to section 18(e) of the Act, on the basis that the information request does not 
exist. 
 
•  on occasions where fewer than five students have failed a paper (i.e. received a grade of Fail 
D or Fail E), we have determined that it is necessary to withhold the marks and specific 
grades for these students to protect their privacy and wellbeing. This is consistent with 
section 9(2)(a) of the Act. We consider that withholding this information is necessary to 
protect against the identity of these students being determined or inferred, and their

personal information (i.e. their marks) could be disclosed. We consider that good reasons 
exist for withholding this information and this is not outweighed by other considerations 
which would make it desirable, in the public interest, to make the information available. 
 
•  please note that all final grades for papers completed in Semester 1 2020 were increased by 
5 marks to account for disruptions created by COVID-19. 
 
•  students who withdrew from the papers or received an Aegrotat Pass (not a mark) are 
excluded from the data. 
 
•  results are correct as at 6 October 2022.
