Mr Lord
[FYI request #20422 email]
Tēnā koe
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 31 August 2022 for
information relating to mobile phone offences.
You requested:
-
Can you please supply the number of tickets issued to drivers that were used a
phone while waiting at a red traffic light in the last 3 months
Police does not specifically record mobile phone infringements that were given at traffic
light intersections. Therefore, your request is refused pursuant to section 18(g) of the
OIA, in that the information is not held.
Police regularly publishes information about road policing offence data, including number
of mobile phone infringements issued on our website:
https://www.police.govt.nz/about-
us/publication/road-policing-driver-offence-data-january-2009-december-2021. This
information is updated quarterly. Future updates can be found by selecting “Publications
and statistics” from the “About Us” menu on the Police website, then searching for “Road
Policing driver offence data”.
If you are not satisfied with the way I have responded to your request, you have the right
under section 28(3) of the OIA to ask the Ombudsman to review my decisions.
Information on how to do this is available online at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz
Yours sincerely
