Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request dated 10 September 2022 (ref 22/23 0214)
The Department refers to your OIA request as referenced above. We are writing to you about the
impact of the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day and an extension we are making to the response time
for your OIA request.
Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day
The Government has enacted the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day Act 2022, which will see 26
September 2022 observed as a New Zealand public holiday in accordance with the Holidays Act 2003.
This will not be an annual public holiday and will only apply in 2022.
This Act has the effect that 26 September 2022 will not be counted as a working day under the OIA.
Recognising this change, the 20th working day of your request is now 10 October 2022.
Extension to our response time
In addition, the Department is extending this deadline for responding to your OIA request by 13
working days to 27 October 2022. The extension is made under section 15A(1)(b) of the OIA as
further consultations are required with the Department’s Digital Safety and Legal Team’s on the
information requested. These consultations are necessary to make a decision on your request and
cannot be made within the 20-working day timeframe.
Access to the Ombudsman
If you are dissatisfied with the Department’s decision on your request for information, you have the
right, under section 28 of the OIA, to make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman. The Office
of the Ombudsman can be contacted by phone on 0800 802 602, via post at PO Box 10152
Wellington or via email to [email address].
