Official Information Act request: Judges’ clerks    
 
Thank you for your email of 26 August 2022 requesting, under the Official Information Act 
1982 (the Act), information relating to judges’ clerks. Specifically, you requested: 
 
1) how many judges clerks have been employed in the last 10 years 
 
2) how many judges clerks have been employed by each court in the last 5 years  
 
3) does the District Court also employ judges clerks? If so please say how many 
judges clerks have been employed by the District Court in the last 5 years. 

 
Pursuant to section 15(1) of the Act, we have made the decision to grant parts 1 and 3 of 
your request. We are currently finalising the information you have requested for release and 
wil  provide you with a response as soon as practicable. 
 
In response to part 2 of your request, I have interpreted your request to mean how many 
judges’ clerks have been employed by court jurisdiction over the last five years. The Ministry 
of Justice’s Human Resources Information System does not record this level of detail. To 
provide the information you have requested would require a manual and time-consuming 
inspection of individual employee files. I am therefore refusing this part of your request under 
section 18(f) of the Act, on the grounds that the information would require substantial 
collation.  
 
If you are not satisfied with this response, you have the right to make a complaint to the 
Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act. The Ombudsman may be contacted by phone
