[FYI request #20250 email]
Dear Nic
Thank you for your email of 17 August 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (the
Ministry) requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 1982:
“Are you able to give a breakdown of the number of funding applications that have been
submitted in Te Reo Māori within the last financial year to the Major Events Fund.”

We have interpreted your request to relate to any applications to the Major Events Fund (inclusive of the
Creative and Cultural Incubator Fund) that have been submitted fully in te reo Māori.
The Ministry received 10 applications to the Major Events Fund in the 2021/22 financial year. None of the
applications were submitted fully in te reo Māori, or even in their majority in te reo Māori.  However, the
Ministry does have capability to receive applications submitted fully in te reo Māori.
The applications the Ministry has received in the 2021/22 financial year have included some wording in te
reo Māori, however its use is minimal in comparison to the rest of the application. For example, the
applications may include one word in te reo Māori in a paragraph, such as referring to a place by its name
in te reo Māori.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802
