Tēnā koe Craig,
Official Information Act request: Claims regarding the Registrar-General of Land and the
Surveyor-General
Thank you for your two emails of 8 August 2022 to the Ministry of Justice. You requested, under
the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), information relating to complaints against the Registrar-
General of Land and the Surveyor-General at the Waitangi Tribunal. Specifically, your requests
state:
Please supply all information relating to complaints against the Registrar General of Land
lodged with the Waitangi Tribunal since 1 January 2016.
Please supply all information relating to complaints against the Surveyor General lodged
with the Waitangi Tribunal since 1 January 2016.
We have undertaken a search of our records and have found there have been no claims lodged
with the Waitangi Tribunal, nor has any correspondence been received by the Waitangi Tribunal
that raises any complaints, against either the Registrar-General or the Surveyor-General. I am
therefore refusing both of your requests under section 18(e) of the Act as the information requested
does not exist.
It is important to note that the role of the Waitangi Tribunal is to inquire into claims that the Crown,
through its actions or omissions, has breached the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi. The
Waitangi Tribunal does not inquire into complaints.
Please email [email address] if you would like further information.
If you are not satisfied with my response, you have the right to complain to the Ombudsman under
section 28(3) of the Act. The Ombudsman may be contacted by email at:
[email address].
Nāku noa, nā
Sandra Edmonds
Deputy Director
Waitangi Tribunal Unit
