Dear Sam
I refer to your information request dated 28 July 2022 made under the Official Information Act 1982.
You have requested confirmation whether Paraparaumu College and Waikanae Primary School were
within the University of Otago’s rural boundary for 2021, and therefore eligible for the Rural Origins
sub-category for entry to the 2022 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB)
programme.
I note that you confirmed that the years of attendance at Paraparaumu College were 2016 – 2020,
and the years of attendance at Waikanae Primary School were 2007 – 2014.
Based on the information you have provided, I can confirm that Paraparaumu College (151
Mazengarb Road, Paraparaumu) and Waikanae Primary School (27 Seddon Street, Waikanae) were
classed as Rural, and an applicant would have been considered under the Rural Origins sub-category
for their application to the 2022 MB ChB programme. It is important to note that all applicants must
provide the required information to support their application under the Rural Origins sub-category,
as per th
e Guidelines for Admission for the MB ChB programme.
Please note that the above information applies to applications received in 2021 for entry to the 2022
MB ChB programme, and may change for entry to the 2023 MB ChB programme.
I trust you will find this information helpful.
Yours sincerely
