Thank you for your email of 15 July 2022 requesting the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
I'm requesting a list of the gps locations of all the NZTA (*not Police*) owned/operated safety 
cameras in the country. 
 
For the purpose of your query, we have considered Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency safety 
cameras to be those that are used to monitor traffic signals (red light cameras), speed or enforce 
speed limits. According to this classification, Waka Kotahi currently owns and operates a total of six 
safety cameras, all located within the Waterview Tunnel. Three cameras are in the same location in 
both the northbound and southbound tunnels. Waka Kotahi does not currently operate any red light 
cameras. 
 
As per your request, please find the below GPS coordinates for safety cameras owned and operated 
by Waka Kotahi. 
  Northbound Tunnel -36.885346, 174.703057 
  Southbound Tunnel -36.883773, 174.702938 
 
You may also be aware that Waka Kotahi is currently undertaking a trial of camera systems which can 
detect driver distraction. These cameras will be used at three different locations in Auckland but are 
not being utilised for any enforcement activity. You can read more about the trial at:
