[FYI request #19912 email]
Dear Chris
Thank you for your email of 14 July 2022 requesting information relating to food security.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You have requested the following:
Please provide:
The latest food security reports 2010 - 2022
Please provide a list of "threats" to food security
Please provide total amount of food at any one time in NZ and total number of
people NZ could feed per annum - population of $50m, $100m, $150m?
Please provide a list of all of the regulations / directives that NZ has received
from global entities UN/ WEF/ that NZ have adopted or are looking to adopt that
have or will have unintended consequences on NZ's ability to eat. This can
include climate regulations
Although my office has received agency advice on these issues, I can confirm that my office
does not hold any specific food security reports, or a specific list of threats to food security.
These parts of your request are therefore declined pursuant to section 18(e) of the OIA –
the document alleged to contain the information requested does not exist.
Your request to provide the
total amount of food at any one time in NZ and total number of
people NZ could feed per annum. This would require specific analysis and the creation of
new information in order to respond to your request. This part of your request is also declined
under section 18(e) of the OIA.
You have also requested
a list of all of the regulations / directives received from global
entities. I can advise that New Zealand does not receive regulations or directives from global
entities like the UN/WEF as they do not have jurisdiction to direct or regulate Parties. This
part of your request is also declined pursuant to section 18(e) of the OIA.
I have attached a link below to the Situation and Outlook for Primary Industries (SOPI)
reports which are publicly available and may hold information relevant to your request.
