Your Official Information Act request, reference H2022007267:  
Thank you for your email of 11 July 2022 requesting information relating to mask exemptions.  
As part of the transformation of the health and disability system reforms, as of 1 July 2022 the functions 
previously under the Ministry of Health (Manatū Hauora)'s Border Operations and Managed Isolation and 
Quarantine team have now transferred to Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand. As the matters you have 
raised now fall under the functions of Te Whatu Ora, our agency will respond to your request which has 
been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).  You requested the following:  
“please provide the number of personalised Covid mask exemptions issued from the end of May 
until the date of response.” 
Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand can advise that 21,339 unique people have applied for a Face 
Mask Exemption pass since the process opened on 30 May 2022 through to 12 July 2022.
