Thank you for your Official Information Act (Act) request received by the Department of Internal 
Affairs (Department) on 1 July 2021.      
You requested – 
Total number of online and paper citizenship applications processing for the months of 
September 2021-June 2022 (as at July 1st 2022).

In response to your request, please refer to Appendix A, attached. Appendix A provides you with 
the fol owing information: 
•  Table one – Breakdown of online citizenship by grant applications received for the period 
1 September 2021 to 19 July 2022 
•  Table two – Breakdown of paper-based citizenship by grant applications received for the 
period 1 September 2021 to 19 July 2022. 
It is important for me to explain that any totals of less than five have been noted as ‘<5’ in the 
table, this is to ensure the privacy of individuals is protected. As a result, I am also unable to 
provide the ‘total’ number of applications as requested, as providing the ‘total’ would enable 
someone to calculate the specific numbers that have been protected by using ‘<5’. 
As this information may be of interest to other members of the public, the Department has 
decided to proactively release a copy of this response on the DIA website. Al  requestor data, 
including your name and contact details, will be removed prior to release. The released 
response will be made available here: https://www.dia.govt.nz/Official-Information-Act-
