thank you for your recent reply.
In your reply, I noted you have 3 other groups, named, Pacific Education Steerage Group, Maori
Medium Advisory Group and Early Childhood Education Advisory Group.
Can I please request the full meeting minutes for Pacific Education Steerage Group and Early
Childhood Education Advisory Group from 1st Jan 2020 to now.
You have mentioned "Maori Medium Advisory Group (please note this group has not met in the past
3 years, and only meets as needed)", can I be supply the last meeting minutes for this group.
Also, I encourage you to upload these meeting minutes on your website to ensure public
transparency like many other government departments did.

1. Can I please request the ful meeting minutes for Pacific Education Steerage Group and Early

Vivienne Shearsby – appointed 2016
Viv brings extensive experience in early childhood education from a wide range of education contexts. In
her current role at Core Education, Viv facilitates professional learning in the areas of governance and
management, leadership, curriculum and assessment and mentoring. Prior to this role, she consulted
for Core Education and was the South Island Professional Services Leader for Kidicorp (now BestStart
Educare) from 2012 to 2014. She has also lectured in a range of initial teacher education contexts and
was a professional development facilitator for the Ministry of Education. Since 2004, Viv has been
mentoring certificated teachers and teachers involved in performance improvement.
Julie Treweek – appointed 2016
As the Senior Professional Leader for Central Kids Kindergartens and Early Learning Centres, Julie
brings significant experience in early childhood particularly in leadership roles across kindergarten
associations. A large part of her current role is dealing with disciplinary matters supporting professional
leaders in relation to complaints about teacher competence and conduct. She has been an
independent reviewer in a kindergarten association’s disciplinary process and was a member of the
accreditation panel for the Education Council. She has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
Mark Brown – appointed 2016
Mark Brown is the Chief Advisor Schools and Community Engagement for the Ministry of Education. He
previously worked there as the Regional Manager for the Nelson, Marlborough West Coast region in
Education Curriculum Performance. He was the principal of Victory School, Nelson from 1994 to 2013,
and Newtown School, Wellington, from 2014 to 2021.
Alison Taylor – appointed 2019
Alison Taylor was the deputy principal of Pakuranga College from 2019 to 2021. She is now retired. She
brings extensive leadership and teaching experience from a secondary schooling perspective, and a
strong academic background. Alison has nearly two decades of senior leadership experience. She
currently leads whole-school Professional Learning and Development and has responsibility for
improving outcomes for Māori. Alison has also worked in sector wide settings including for NZQA.
Steve Elers – appointed 2018
Dr Elers (Ngati Kauwhata) is a tertiary educator from Palmerston North and is employed as a senior
lecturer at Massey University's School of Communication, Journalism and Marketing. He has an active
interest in Māori education and his second master's degree is in educational leadership. Dr Elers has
studied at universities in New Zealand and Australia and he is a former police officer (Western
Australia).

Please see the below fee schedule that the Competence Authority Members are entitled to, as per the
fees schedule set by Cabinet and advice from AuditNZ and the Office of the Auditor General. The
Cabinet Office Circular is linked below.

Competence Authority Daily Rates
Chair: $475
Preparation Fee (2 hours for work that takes 4 hours): $237.50
Members: $385
Preparation Fee (2 hours for work that takes 4 hours): $192.50
These rates are inclusive of GST, if any.
4. Can I please have how many applications you have recieved and how many you have shortlisted
for interview
We have received 32 applicants for the Competence Authority position. No further information is
available at this stage as the selection process is in progress and not yet complete.
5. How many are direct application and how many are referral from organizations.
All applicants for the Competence Authority position were direct applicants via Seek and Education
Gazette. There have been no referrals from other organisations.
