I refer to your Official Information Act request dated 30 June 2022. You have requested information 
regarding UCAT thresholds for entry to the 2023 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB 
ChB) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programmes via the Māori or Indigenous Pacific Equity 
Groups. 
 
Please see our response to your request below. 
 
For entry into 2023 Medicine or Dentistry, do those in Pacific or Māori sub-categories 
require a certain UCAT grade? Is UCAT even looked at for those categories? 
 
MB ChB: 
 
The use of UCAT is decided upon annually by the Medical Admissions Committee. The UCAT 
thresholds for entry to the 2023 MB ChB programme, and which categories or Equity Groups the 
thresholds will apply to, have not been set yet. They are expected to be set in December 2022. 
 
BDS: 
 
The use of UCAT is decided upon annually by the Dental Admissions Committee. The UCAT 
thresholds for entry to the 2023 BDS programme, and which categories or Equity Groups the 
thresholds will apply to, have not been set yet. They are expected to be set in October 2022.
