Dear Stirling
I refer to your Official Information Act (Act) request dated 23 June 2022. You have requested information
regarding entry to the 2022 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) programme via the
Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) General category.
We set out our responses to each of your questions below.
The total number of students currently enrolled and included in the cohort for MB ChB who
began in 2022
Please see the below table which shows the number of students currently enrolled in MICN201 (Second
Year Medicine), as at 30 June 2022.
It is the University’s standard practice to not report on data which relates to fewer than 5 students
where we consider that such disclosure could affect an individual’s privacy and wellbeing. Where the
numbers are very low, there is a risk that the identity of these students could be determined/inferred,
and that their personal information could be revealed. We therefore withhold this information pursuant
to section 9(2)(a) of the Act. Accordingly, we note that where there are less than 5 students enrolled in
MICN201 in 2022 for a specific group, we have indicated this using “<5” (“fewer than 5”). We do not
consider that the reasons for withholding this information are outweighed by other considerations which
would make it desirable in the public interest to make the information available.

The highest grade average for a HSFY student who failed to receive an offer in the general
entry pathway to MB ChB 2022
The highest average academic score to not receive an offer to the 2022 MB ChB programme via the HSFY
General category was 92.86.
The number of HSFY students who were originally placed on the waitlist in the general entry
pathway to MB ChB 2022
There were 34 applicants waitlisted for the 2022 MB ChB programme via the HSFY General category.
The number of HSFY students on the waitlist in the general entry pathway to MB ChB 2022
who failed to receive any offer
All applicants that accepted their offer to be on the waitlist for entry to the 2022 MB ChB programme via
the HSFY General category were then made an offer to enter the programme (no students failed to
receive an offer).
I trust that this information will be helpful.
I note your right to seek a review of these decisions via complaint to an Ombudsman. However, we
would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.
Yours sincerely
