Thank you for your Official Information Act (Act) request received by the Department of Internal 
Affairs (Department) on 15 June 2022.      
You requested –  
•  I would like to request all staff emails and instant messages created about the Registrar 
General Jeff Montgomery including, but not limited to, his suitability for the role. 
•  I would like this to cover all DIA staff and the Internal Affairs Minister, all DIA Chief 
Executives and Deputy Chief Executives and any other ministers involved in his 
appointment. 
•  I would like this to include all information prior to and leading up to his appointment and 
the 12months post his appointment. 
•  Was the role advertised, how many people applied for the role of Registrar General and 
their qualifications please? 
•  I am happy for staff names and potential applicants to be redacted to protect privacy if 
this is deemed necessary. 
 
In response to your request, I can provide you with the following information:  
On the 28 June 2022 under Official Information Act request 2122-0797, (an earlier request from 
you) we released the details around the job description, salary band range and other 
information about the Registrar General. 
The information you have requested currently is of a significant volume. Due to the substantial 
amount of work that would be required to research and collate the information you have 
requested, I must refuse your full request under section 18(f) of the Act; that the information 
requested cannot be made available without substantial collation or research.
