Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act (“OIA”) dated 14 June 2022. 
 
You have requested: 
1.  All NZ On Air documents and communications that mention the propaganda term 'Indo-
Pacific' or 'Indo Pacific'. 
 
Due to the wide scope of your request, we require your request to be clarified. NZ On Air has 32 years of 
documents and correspondence, many of which are not easily accessible via computer and are in physical 
archives. Similarly, the terms ‘documents’ and ‘communications’ require clarification as they are too wide 
in scope for us to respond to in a timely manner. 
 
Considering this, could you please provide a revised request that specifies a timeframe under which 
documents and communications have been created and which type(s) of documents and 
communications you are requesting. If you need assistance clarifying this request, you can contact staff 
member Conall Aird via [email address]. 
 
We also note that under our governing legislation, The Broadcasting Act 1989, NZ On Air does not have 
editorial control of content and therefore we do not and cannot influence the terminology used by any of 
our funded media. Communications and documents created by funded media bodies are administered by 
the producers of that content. As they are entities separate from NZ On Air, we do not have access to 
their files. As such, unless specifically forwarded to us, we do not have any documentation or 
communication generated by funded parties. 
 
It appears likely that your original request will need to be clarified or amended to enable us to respond. 
Please note, any clarification or amendment of a request is considered to be a new request for the 
purpose of calculating the maximum statutory timeframe for response—see section 15(1AA) of the OIA.  
For your information, funding provided by NZ On Air for all successful projects as well as media releases 
and external documents are searchable on our website. You can also sign up to receive our regular 
industry newsletter via our website.
