Kia ora Jack Hulls,
Your Official Information Act request
Thank you for your Official Information Act request, which was received by the Department
of Internal Affairs (the Department) on 25 May 2022.
You have requested:
Today it was announced that ministry of education’s building is not up to earthquake
standards. Can you please provide information about the earthquake assessment of head
office on Pipite st. Of interest is when was it last assessed and what was the result. Any
information about when another assessment will be done.
Please find my response to your request below.
The head office for Te Tari Taiwhenua Department of Internal Affairs, situated at 45 Pipitea
Street, is a leased building.
A detailed seismic assessment was undertaken on behalf of the landlord and we received
advice in December 2017 that the building was assessed at 92% NBS (New Building
Standard).
At this stage, we are not aware of any plans that the landlord may have to undertake
another assessment.
If you have any feedback or questions about the Department’s response, please let us know
at [email address]
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
Information about how to make a complaint is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or Freephone 0800 802 602.
