INFORMATION REQUEST – Maunganui Road Safety Improvements Project
We write in response to your email dated 19 May 2022 in which you requested the following
information:
Please receive an information request for the following:
1)  A  copy  of  the  ‘Road  Safety  Audit’  completed  for  the  new  Roundabout
deployment
2)  A Link to published designs AND OR if not published, a design document in the
standard  PDF  format,  most  likely  similar  to  this  published  design  i.e
"https://www.tauranga.govt.nz/Portals/0/data/future/transportation_projects/file
s/maunganuird_hullrd_roadmarking_layout.pdf"

Please also advise the following
1)  Please confirm Tauranga City Council (the controlling road authority) authorised
approval  of  the  section  of  Maunganui  Rd  (Golf  road  to  Hull  Rd)  in  which  the
roundabout is being installed as an HPMV route / currently (I.e. is Tauranga City
Council providing Transport Company / large trucks special permits to use High
productivity motor vehicles (HPMV).
YES or NO?

2)  Did  the  Tauranga  City  council  take  into  consideration  on  road  safety
requirements for venerable road users, i.e. on-road cyclists, with a high traffic
volume of HPMVs using this route.
YES or NO?

3)  Did  the  Road  Safety  audit  scope  of  work  include  the  safety  consideration
requirements  for  venerable  road  users,  i.e.  on-road  cyclists  sharing  the  road
with Tauranga City permitted HPMVs / high traffic volume of HPMVs using this
route
YES or NO?

4)  Please  also  advise  if  NZTA  funding  was  provided  for  the  roundabout
construction
YES or NO?

We have considered your request in accordance with the Local Government Official
Information and Meetings Act 1987 (“LGOIMA”) and respond as follows:
In response to the first part of your request, please find attached the following documents:
  Maunganui Road Traffic Calming Road Safety Audit - Golf Road to Hinau Street -
Safety Engineer Comments
  Golf Road to Hinau Street Road Safety Audit - Civil Plans (as at 14-06-22)
The attached road safety audit attached contains the engineer recommendations and our
response. This is the latest version currently available. A final road safety audit is pending,
when this is finalised, it will be made available online, we do not have a timeframe at this
stage.
Names of individuals have been redacted under section 7(2)(a) of LGOIMA to protect the
privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural persons
.

No. Maunganui Road is not an HPMV route.

In answer to both question 2 and 3:
Yes.  Both  Tauranga  City  Council  and  the  road  safety  audit  considered  the  safety
requirements of venerable road users. Maunganui Road is not an HPMV route.
4)  Please  also  advise  if  NZTA  funding  was  provided  for  the  roundabout
construction
YES or NO?

Yes.
