OFFICIAL INFORMATION REQUEST WITH REGARDS TO THE HUNTING REVIEW
CURRENTLY BEING PLANNED OR UNDERTAKEN BY THE COUNCIL IN RESPECT OF THE
MAITAI AND RODING RESERVES
I refer to your official information request dated 4 May 2022 with regards to the Hunting
Review currently being planned or undertaken by the Council in respect of the Maitai and
Roding Reserves.
The information you requested is below.
1. The terms of reference.
• These have not been finalised yet as the project is to be undertaken later in the
2022/23 financial year.
• The draft project outline is:
o Complete a review of effectiveness of the various ungulate management
programmes in the Maitai and Roding Water Reserves in achieving the purpose
of protection of ecological and water quality values:
Review should include all ungulate control programmes occurring in the
Maitai and Roding Water Reserves, including caretaker and recreational
hunting and consider costs/benefits of including community meat
recovery.
2. The planned start and finish dates.
• The suggested timeframe for the review is following the September 2022 Maitai and
Roding Water Reserve ungulate cull, after which the current cull contract will have
expired. We plan to contract the completed review prior to the end of the financial year
2022/2023, with an accurate date to be determined during the procurement process.
3. The budget.
• This has not been finalised yet

4. Who is undertaking the review (i.e. consultancy or internal team)
• The review will be undertaken by an external consultant. The procurement process will
determine the consultant once completed.
