Purposes:
Removal of car-parking minimums
The National Policy Statement on Urban Development (NPSUD) requires the removal of car
parking minimums by February 2022. The effects of this removal include matters in the Auckland
Unitary Plan (AUP) that would benefit from being amended by a plan change. This workshop will
provide:
1. information about the planning issues arising from the removal of car parking minimums
from the AUP (as required by the NPSUD)
2. information about the matters (relating to the removal of car parking minimums in the AUP)
that require a plan change.
3. information on urban design issues associated with private pedestrian accessways. These
accessways will become more prevalent as a result of removing the car parking minimums.
4. an opportunity for members to discuss and seek clarification prior to the decision at
Planning Committee on 5 August when planning staff will seek the committee's
endorsement to undertake a plan change.
All other locations – intensification approach
To provide an opportunity for members to discuss and seek clarification prior to the decision at
Planning Committee on 5 August when staff wil seek the committee’s endorsement of how
accessibility and demand is measured and the intensification approach to ‘all other locations’*
(*outside of city centre and metropolitan centre zones and walkable catchments of the edge of city
and metropolitan centre zone and planned and existing Rapid Transit Network stops).
