19 APRIL 2022: OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST 
 
In your email dated 19 April 2022 you requested the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982.   
 
1.  Are you able to give a breakdown by year/fund of the number of funding 
applications that have been submitted in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) over 
the last three financial years. 
 
2.  Does your funding platform currently allow for video-based submissions to be 
assessed, and if not what is the timeline for this? 
 
Answers to your specific questions are set out below. 
 
No applications in New Zealand Sign Language have been submitted to the New Zealand 
Film Commission (NZFC) in the last three financial years. 
 
Funding guidelines for all NZFC discretionary funds currently require written applications via 
an online form. 
 
Some funds administered by the NZFC Talent Development Department have a video pitch 
as part of the application, however the ful  application is unable to be submitted in video 
form.  
 
Applications to the New Zealand Screen Production Grant (International and Domestic) do 
not currently allow for video-based submissions. 
 
The NZFC is soon to launch a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy. One of the initiatives under 
this Strategy is a review of the funding application process to ensure it is accessible and 
inclusive  –  this includes the ability to submit video-based applications.  The  estimated 
timeline for this is 2024 – however this timeline is not definitive and is subject to change.
