Kia ora Julie,
Privacy request – CAS-532385-B1P4Q0
Thank you for your request dated 25 March 2022, requesting information about enforcement in Auckland
against vehicles illegally parking on the footpath for the period 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021.
The datafiles that we can pull from the enforcement system that is used for data analysis, does not provide
the infringements per local board/ward. Thus, the data cannot be broken down to only reflect the Albert-
Eden-Puketāpapa ward areas as per your original request. The data provided below is for the entire Auckland
region from Pukekohe in the South, coast to coast, to Wellsford in the North covering every town and city
centre between. This coverage is 21hrs per day, 7 days per week.
For this period, 7515 infringements were issued for the offence
Parked on footpath or cycle path which is a
road safety offence
.
The question about the number of waivers granted attached to this offence for the period in question needs
some context; The dispute of Parking infringements is managed by the Auckland Transport Adjudication team
and each dispute is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Once a dispute is received, all the relevant information
attached to the offence and the dispute information provided by the registered owner of the vehicle, is taken
into consideration by the Adjudicator before a decision is made.
367 infringements were waived between January and December 2021. An exemption code is used for each
infringement waived and the number of infringements waived per exemption code fol ows:

For the period in question, 6099 Requests for Service (RFS) were raised, specifically for vehicles illegally
parking on a footpath or cycle path. Auckland Transport does rely on the help of the public to address
illegal parking behaviour by calling on 09 355 3553, tel ing the operator to raise a Request for Service for an
illegally parked vehicle and for the case to be referred to the Auckland Parking Compliance team. We then
investigate on a case-by-case basis. When requesting enforcement, specific information that is timely and
relevant, such as the registration number of the vehicle and details of the parking offence or damage
created assist our officers greatly. We do appreciate this is not always possible or convenient however any
assistance is much appreciated.
Important to note that the number of infringements issued is a combination of the RFS and Officers picking
up offending vehicles while on beat patrol.
We trust this satisfies your request. However, should you believe that we have not responded
appropriately to your request for information, you have the right in accordance with section 67 of the
Privacy Act to make a complaint to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner to seek an investigation review
regarding this matter.
Yours sincerely
John Strawbridge
