Tēnā koe,
Official information request
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 1 February 2022 seeking
the following information from the Government Communications Security Bureau (GCSB):
I would like to know how many staff are leaving the GCSB because of the COVID-19 vaccination
requirements. Please split by terminations, as well as resignations.
On 17 December 2021 the GCSB and New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS)
introduced a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. The Policy stated that from 14 February 2022, all
GCSB and NZSIS employees who come to our offices will be required to be fully vaccinated
for COVID-19. This policy was consulted with the staff from both agencies, and the majority
of feedback received was positive and in support of our vaccination approach.
In response to your request, I can advise that four GCSB employees resigned who indicated
that they would be unable to meet the GCSB’s Covid-19 vaccination requirements. After
exploring all available options, a further three people were provided notice to end their
employment.
If you wish to discuss this response with us, please feel free to contact
[GCSB request email].
Yours sincerely
