Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) request, received on 31 January
2022. You requested:
“I request a copy of Flirtey (SkyDrop)' part 102 operating certificate and any documents
related to the certificate, such as operating/safety procedures/requirements (submitted or
made by either Flirtey or the CAA).
I also request a copy of any correspondence between Flirtey and the CAA in regards to how
they can/plan to operate drones above other peoples private property.”
Your request for a copy of Flirtey’s operating certification and operations specifications is
granted. Please find attached:

Please note that a redaction has been made to the Part 102 Matrix in accordance with s 9(2)(a)
to protect the privacy of natural persons. We do not consider that in the circumstances of this
case the public interest outweighs the need to withhold this information.
Within the scope of “
any documents related to the certificate, such as operating/safety
procedures/requirements (submitted or made by either Flirtey or the CAA)” we have
identified ‘
Part 102 Flirtey Exposition Version 5 – Flirtey 30 June 2019 Final Signed’. This
document is withheld in full in accordance with section 9(2)(b)(i) and s 9(2)(b)(ii) of the Act
to protect information which is likely to disclose a trade secret, and where its release would
be likely to unreasonably prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied the
information. We do not consider that in the circumstances of this case the public interest
outweighs the need to withhold this information.
Your request for a copy of “
correspondence between Flirtey and the CAA in regards to how
they can/plan to operate drones above other peoples private property” is refused
in
accordance with s 18(g) of the Act as the information requested is not held by the Civil
Aviation Authority and I have no grounds for believing the information is either held by or
more closely connected to the functions of another government agency. Privacy issues are

considered in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 and are not within the jurisdiction of the
Civil Aviation Authority.
For your reference, Flirtey have provided the following privacy statement:
“Flirtey as a drone delivery company is conscious of privacy issues and perceptions with the
use of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS). Flirtey shall ensure compliance with all
relevant laws and a transparent approach to the protection of privacy, incorporating the
fol owing principles for drone delivery operations:
•
Transparency - Exercise reasonable efforts to provide transparency for the collection
and use of data.
•
Data minimisation - Limit collection and retention of sensitive data to that which is
needed to achieve specified purposes. Accordingly, during flight operations, the on-
board camera is anticipated to be used only during takeoff, landing and delivery.
•
Security - Exercise reasonable efforts to secure col ected and retained data.”
