Information Request – use of surgical masks and preparations for omicron.
I refer to your official information requests dated 28 January 2022 regarding Fire Emergency New
Zealand's use of surgical masks and our preparations for the omicron variant.
The Official Information Act 1982 (
OIA) requires that we advise you of our decision on your
requests no later than 20 working days after the day we received them. Unfortunately, it will not
be possible to meet that time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of
the time to make our decision, to 11 March 2022. We will try to respond before that time if we
can.
The reason for the extension is that your requests necessitate consideration of a large quantity of
information and meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with our operations.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
