Mr Fraser
[FYI request #18310 email]
Dear Mr Fraser
Thank you for your email of 25 January 2022 to the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment
(MBIE) requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), the following information:
Could you please provide the number of Afghan Nationals who have completed a period of
isolation in MIQ Facilities since 15 August 2021.
We decline your request under section 18(d) of the Act as the information requested is publicly available.
Since 9 April 2020, all travellers arriving in New Zealand by air have been required to enter Managed
Isolation and Quarantine (MIQ) and complete a period of isolation, with the exception of those who
entered New Zealand under Quarantine-free travel arrangements.
MBIE maintains a publicly accessible database on Migration Data Explorer at:
mbienz.shinyapps.io/migration_data_explorer/. This tool allows users to filter the data by arrivals and by
nationality and find the number of Afghan Nationals who have entered New Zealand at any given time.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information
about the process is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
Yours sincerely
Kat Watson
