[FYI request #17949 email]
Dear Donna
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request of 16 December
2021 and subsequent clarifications from that initial request, in which you sought
information, around the St Heliers Police Station and other premises. My
response to your questions can be found below.
1. How many stations (like St Heliers Community Police Station) are
being sold off around the country?
New Zealand Police (Police) are currently in the process of disposing of the
following former stations which have been relocated into the premises:
• 309 High St, former Rangiora station (relocated to new station at corner of
Southern Cross Road and Kingsford Smith Drive Rangiora)
• 1213 Dominion Rd, former Mt Roskil  station (relocated to new station at
150 Stoddard Road)
• 2 Hagley Street, former Porirua Station (Treaty Settlement, relocated to
new Porirua Station at Heriot Drive)
• 58 Remuera Rd, former Newmarket station (relocated to new station at 14
Teed Street)
• 56 St Heliers Bay Road, St Heliers station (this station has been
unmanned for many years because this area is serviced from the Glenn
Innes Police Station which is less that 4km from the St Heliers Station)
2. Does the sale include the land? What happens to the money from
these sales?
Land is included with all property disposals. Divestment funds are reinvested
back into the Police property portfolio for further investment.
3. How often are the ones that remain, manned?
The manning of Police station varies from site to site depending on the
requirements of each community.
4. How many have been closed down since 2019?
Police National Headquarters
180 Molesworth Street, Thorndon, Wellington SX11149
Telephone: (04) 474 9499. www.police.govt.nz

Please refer to Table 1 below for a list of sites that have been relocated, since
2019. No sites have been closed since 2019 without relocation.

5.  What are the statistics for 105 calls versus apprehension of
perpetrators?
During the 2020/2021 fiscal year, 118,030 occurrences with offences were
recorded by 105 call takers. Of these, 15,011 occurrences list at least one
‘cleared offender’. A ‘cleared offender’ is recorded when there is evidential
sufficiency linking the offender to the offence, a supervisor has approved the
action being taken, and the victim has been notified of the outcome of their case.
Please note, a cleared of ender is not necessarily arrested as alternative
resolutions are available.

This indicates that during the 2020/2021 year 12.7% of the occurrences featuring
an offence had an offender linked to an offence and action taken to resolve the
offence (as at 12/1/2022 when this data was extracted).

Please note that the 105 line receives a range of calls, many of which are not
offence-related, such as advice calls; requests to be transferred to specific
stations; reports of lost or damaged property.  These are not included in the
above figures.

6.  I would also like to see any correspondence in all forms (texts,
emails etc) between the NZ Police Commissioner  and any one or
more of the following: Office of the Prime Minister, Police Minister,
or the Minister of Justice with regards to the selling off of the St
Heliers Police Station, from 31 December 2020 to 31st December
2021.
There was no correspondence between the Police Commissioner and the Prime
Minister, Police Minister or Minister of Justice, with regards to selling the St
Heliers Police Station in the period 31 December 2020 to 31 December 2021.

7.  I understand the police station house at St Heliers is being sold.
What wil  the land be used for?
This station is going through the disposal process and Police have no knowledge
of who might purchase the station or what its future use may be.
I trust you wil  find this information of use.

Yours sincerely,

Michelle Diston
