Dear Andrew

Request made under the Official Information Act 1982

Thank you for your email of 23 November 2021 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

In the last few months several CCTV cameras have been installed along State Highway
11, including at the intersections with English Bay Road/Franklin Street, Oramahoe Road,
and Nautical Drive.

Are these New Zealand Transport Agency's cameras?

If not, what organisation is responsible for these cameras?

If these are New Zealand Transport Agency's cameras I request the following information:
- all reports, assessments and communications leading to the installation of the cameras,
- a description of the information that is recorded on these cameras, including whether
this includes a number plate recognition system,
- the privacy report for these cameras, including how and where data is stored and kept
secure, and how long it is kept for before being deleted,
- the locations of all such cameras along State Highway 11.

If these are cameras installed along State Highway 11 by another organisation I request
the following information:
- a copy of the application to New Zealand Transport Agency for permission to erect and
operate the cameras along the State Highway,
- all reports, assessments and communications by New Zealand Transport Agency
related to the processing of the application to install cameras at selected locations along
State Highway 11.

The cameras are not owned or managed by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. We are currently
investigating their installation.

Waka Kotahi did not receive an application about the cameras’ installation and operation. I am
therefore refusing your request for a copy of this application and copies of reports, assessments and
communications relating to this application under section 18(e) of the Act because the document
alleged to contain the information requested does not exist.

Under section 28 of the Act, you have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision to refuse
part of this request]. The contact details for the Ombudsman can be located at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.

If you would like to discuss this reply with Waka Kotahi, please contact Kobus Du Toit, System
Manager - Maintenance and Operations, by email to [email address].

Yours sincerely
