1. 
On  11  October  2021  you  made  a  request  for  information  under  the  Official 
Information Act 1982 to the Human Rights Commission. On 18 November 2021 the 
Human Rights Commission transferred one part of your request to Te Tari Ture o te 
Karauna,  the  Crown  Law  Office.  This  was  the  request  to  provide  the  “number  of 
legal challenges against them (this Labour Government).”

Given the context of your letter, which expresses concerns with the government’s 
COVID-19 response, we have understood your request to be asking for the number 
of legal challenges to the Government’s COVID-19 response.  
3. 
Legal  challenges  have  been  brought  about  various  aspects  of  the  Government’s 
response.  We  have  endeavoured  to  best  ascertain  the  total  number  and  have 
identified  45  legal  challenges  to  various  aspects  of  the  Government’s  response  to 
COVID-19. There may be other proceedings of which we are unaware.
