Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) on 9 October
2021 for information regarding the immunisation subsidy for General Practitioners (GPs) who
administer vaccines to eligible patients. I wil respond to each part of your request in turn:
“1) The dollar amount each GP receives per subsidy claim for a patient's single visit. If
there are different amounts for each "vaccine code" or "claim code" then provide a
breakdown for each.
GPs are funded for administering vaccines scheduled in the Primary Health Organisation
(PHO) Services agreement, the contract between district health boards (DHBs) and PHOs. The
specific vaccines funded under the PHO Services Agreement are as follows;
• Vaccines listed in the National Immunisation Schedule
• Influenza Vaccine
• Hepatitis B vaccine, and
• Zosters Vaccines
The Ministry has interpreted your request as funding general practices receive per dose for
administering the vaccines scheduled in the PHO Services Agreement. SCHEDULE F1.3 (page
105) in the PHO Services Agreement outlines the payments for immunisation services:

2021.pdf.
2) Provide a total dollar amount claimed by all GP's nationwide for each year, for the past
10 years (2011-2021).
The Ministry has provided a breakdown of the amounts claimed by GP’s for administering
vaccines scheduled in the PHO Services agreement between 2016 and 2020. This data is
attached as Appendix 1.
Please note, the Ministry does not have access to data prior to 2016. Data has been extracted
by calendar of the claim receipt for all approved claims and accepted claim items with a
payment value greater than $0. Al amounts are GST exclusive. Immunisation payments are
broken down to Claim Code level for individual visits to the doctor (VISITS). The Ministry also
does not hold data broken down by individual vaccine codes and are not able to provide
claiming information for identifiable practitioners. Data excludes all COVID-19 related
immunisation volumes and expenses.
3) The above URL is with respect to the National Immunisation Register and the "traditional"
vaccines. With concern to the Covid/Pfizer vaccines, what dollar amount is paid out as a
subsidy for each dose administered.”
The amount a GP and pharmacy receive per dose of the Pfizer vaccine is as fol ows:
COVID-19 GP and Pharmacy Vaccination per
$36.05 ex GST
dose
COVID-19 GP and Pharmacy Vaccination-Out of
$48.72 ex GST
Hours per dose
I trust this fulfils your request. Under section 28(3) of the Act, you have the right to ask the
Ombudsman to review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may be
