Official information request for Victoria University of Wellington equity 
reports 
 
I refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) 
dated 7 October 2021: 
“I am writing to ask if you regularly publish equity reports detailing the 
breakdown of staff by gender and ethnicity across all roles within the university. 
I'm particularly interested in academic staff ratios, from casual tutors through 
to professors.” 
 
The University does not regularly publish reports regarding staff gender or ethnicity. 
However we are able to provide the attached document that contains a distribution of 
gender and ethnicity by job family by role group as at 19 October 2021. 
 
Please note, information regarding gender and ethnicity of employees is provided to the 
University at the discretion of the employee. There may be instances where an employee 
has chosen not to provide this information. In these instances, your request for these 
aspects of information is refused in accordance with Section 18(g) of the Act as the 
information is not held by the University. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this 
decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
