Response to your official information request 
Thank you for your official information request to Hon Damien O’Connor which was 
received by Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) on 05 October 2021.  
You have requested al  information relating to the changes to the Streets basemap as 
shown on the LINZ Data Service and, in particular, the depiction of reserves. 
The geospatial data management platform that underpins the LINZ Data Service 
(including its basemaps) is provided by a third party supplier, Koordinates.  In April 2020, 
LINZ was advised by Koordinates that the default ‘Streets’ basemap style was being 
changed; a copy of this email is attached. 
Personal information in the email has been redacted under section 9(2)(a) of the Official 
Information Act to protect the privacy of natural persons.  We are of the view that the 
withholding of this information is not outweighed by other considerations which render it 
desirable in the public interest to make that information available.
