Thank you for your Of icial Information Act request to the Department of Conservation, 
received on 20 September 2021 in which you asked for: 
 
a copy of, “a letter to the Department of Conservation at the end of July claiming the 
ownership of the Blumine Island in the Marlborough Sounds.” 
 
I regret that I am not able to provide you with the information you seek. 
 
Your request is declined under section 18(a) of the Act, as, by virtue of section 6(c) and 
section 9(2)(a) we have grounds to withhold this information. 
 
The letter you have requested contains personal information belonging to other individuals. 
Furthermore, it has been assessed that releasing the letter could prejudice the investigation 
of offences and the right to a fair trial. 
 
In making my decision, I have considered the public interest considerations in section 9(1) of 
the Of icial Information Act and determined there are no public interests which outweigh the 
grounds for withholding. 
 
You are entitled to seek an investigation and review of my decision by writing to an 
Ombudsman as provided by section 28(3) of the Of icial Information Act.
