Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of 
Health (the Ministry) on 1 September 2021 for information regarding Dr Bloomfield’s statement 
around the risk of myocarditis after vaccination.  
 
You specifically requested:  
 
“Dr Bloomfield made a statement that the risk of myocarditis after vaccination is alot lower 
than the risk of myocarditis after being infected with COVID-19. 
 
I would like Dr Bloomfield or the Ministry of Health to please provide the evidence, facts 
and scientific data used to make this claim.” 
 
On 17 September 2021, we contacted you to clarify your request. You clarified the statement 
you are referring to was made on 30 August 2021. 
 
Please be advised the above-mentioned statement was made by the Prime Minister, it was not 
made by the Director-General of Health, Dr Bloomfield. Therefore, the Ministry is unable to 
provide an answer to your request.
