[FYI request #16567 email]
Dear Mark
I am writing in response to the first part of your request that was transferred to New
Zealand Police under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) from the Minister of Police
on 22 September 2021 as this question was more closely connected with the functions of
Police. Specifical y, you requested:
What additional oversight of Police activities has been put in place during the current
increased COVID-19 Alert Level?

There has been no additional oversight of Police activities put in place during the current
increased COVID-19 alert level. Police operates under the existing legislation; this
includes while working in the dynamic and changing COVID-19 environment.

We continue to police by consent to maintain the support of the wider public in our
actions. This means our actions need to be seen as reasonable, proportionate, and
aligned to the intent of the lockdown.

You have the right under section 28(3) of the Act to ask the Ombudsman to seek an
investigation and review of my decision.

Yours sincerely

Superintendent Barry Taylor
Director: Major Events
