Response to your request for official information
Thank you for your request under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) to the Ministry of
Health (the Ministry) on 25 August 2021 for information about the Pfizer vaccine (including
vaccine status of positive cases). I wil  respond to each part of your request in turn.
1. I would like to see the Pfizer vaccination status of current covid-19 cases. This page
does not have the vaccination status.
https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-
coronavirus/covid-19-data-and-statistics/covid-19-current-cases
Please find data regarding the vaccination status of the current COVID-19 cases in New
Zealand below. Any further information regarding current cases vaccination or hospitalisation
status is withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Official Information Act (the Act) to protect the
privacy of natural persons.

2. I would also like to see the clinical trial summary of the Pfizer vaccine with the "delta
variant". As you know the vaccine trial data is from 2020 and the delta variant outbreaks
have been in 2021.

As you acknowledge, at the time the Pfizer vaccine was approved by Medsafe, the delta variant
had not emerged. Therefore, clinical trials against this variant were not required for approval of
the vaccine. Medsafe continue to monitor real-world data from vaccination programmes across
the world to ensure the continued safety and efficacy of the vaccine, as described here:
www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-
vaccines/covid-19-vaccine-clinical-trials-and-testing#participants. The monitoring of real-world
data does not require the submission of clinical trial summaries from Pfizer, unless specifically
requested by Medsafe / the Ministry.

Further information about the vaccine, including ongoing clinical trials can be found on the
Ministry’s website here: https:/ www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-
novel-coronavirus/covid-19-vaccines/covid-19-vaccine-clinical-trials-and-testing#participants
and in the vaccine’s data sheet here: www.medsafe.govt.nz/profs/Datasheet/c/comirnatyinj.pdf.

I trust this information fulfils your request. Under section 28(3) of the Act you have the right to
ask the Ombudsman to review any decisions made under this request. The Ombudsman may
be contacted by email at: [email address] or by calling 0800 802 602.

Please note that this response, with your personal details removed, may be published on the
Ministry website at: www.health.govt.nz/about-ministry/information-releases/responses-official-
information-act-requests.
