Your request for information is refused under section 18(e) of the Act, as the document al eged to contain 
the information does not exist. This is because the Companies Office does not licence or register funeral 
directors and homes in New Zealand. 
 
We understand that this is done by local authorities, such as city councils under the Health (Burials) 
Regulations 1946. These regulations provide for the registration of persons to prepare the dead for burial 
and conduct funerals. You may wish to direct your request for information to the respective local 
authorities  or entities  that  would  hold the  information.  You  could also contact the Funeral Directors 
Association of NZ and the New Zealand Independent Funeral Homes (NZIFH) for information. 
 
To assist with your enquiry, we have provided a spread sheet containing publically available information 
on entities that have indicated they are funeral directors or homes on their industry classification when 
they were issued with a New Zealand Business Number. However, it is not possible to determine whether 
the entities on the list are licensed or registered with the relevant local authorities as funeral directors or 
homes.
