OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST 21.42 Costs of Guest Lecture in 2019
I refer to the Official Information Act (the Act) request dated 9 July 2021 for information relating to the costs
of hosting a member of the Mongrel Mob in a guest Lecture in 2019. Please see your request and the answers
below:
1. Whether the University of Canterbury, including any of its departments, schools, or staff, [but not including
students and other attendees acting in their personal capacities] has made any expenditure [including
donation, koha, stipend, compensation, coverage for costs of attendance, flights and transport,
accommodation etc.] to Mark Griffiths, the Waikato Mongrel Mob Kingdom chapter, and/or any member,
associate or spokesperson in 2019 for delivering a guest lecture under the supervision of Dr Jarred Gilbert.
It does not include the internal costs of operation of the guest lecture.
There was no expenditure paid to Mr Mark Griffiths.
2. Correspondences between the University, including any of its departments, schools or staff with Mark
Griffiths, the Waikato Mongrel Mob Kingdom chapter, and/or any member, associate or spokesperson of the
Waikato Mongrel Mob Kingdom before and after this guest lecture and in relation to the guest lecture and the
planning of it.
In case parts of the correspondences were made through the mobile network (calling and texting) that it is not
feasible to collect such information, these are not required to be provided.
Communication regarding the guest lecture was done by phone. There were no other communications.
Therefore, this correspondence is refused under s 18(e) of the Act, as that the document al eged to contain the
information requested does not exist.
