Dear James
OIA Enquiry Regarding Locations of Transportation Features
Thank you for your enquiry seeking GPS location data for a number of Transportation
assets.
Hamilton City Council has no GPS co-ordinates for most of the asset types you have
requested but we do have location data that may be able to be converted into co-
ordinates.
The following data is readily available for the assets you have asked about:
1. Passing lanes - there are no passing lanes on the city network.
2. Yellow no passing lines - no gps info is currently available but we could give the
streets and the approximate position in the street. This would not be sufficient
for conversion to GPS co-ordinates but there are few no passing lines in the City
and a gps survey would be relatively quick.
3. Rest Areas - There are no roadside rest areas as such in the City but there are
numerous parks that can be used by motorists for a break. These parks are
recorded in our GIS system and a shape file could be provided showing the
locations of these parks.
4. Litter bins - we can supply street name and approximate location on the street
that could be used to derive a GPS location for street litter bins.
5. Stop and Give Way signs - currently we are able to provide the street name and
approximate location on the street that can be used to derive an approximate gps
location. However we are part way through a project that includes the gathering
C
of GPS data for signs, we expect this to take a further 12 months to complete.
6. Pedestrian crossings Again we can give a street name and approximate location
it
on the street that could be used to derive a GPS location.
y
For the Loading Zones, Metered Parking and other parking restrictions the location data
T
is recorded in paper files in terms of distances from intersections, property boundaries
r
and other fixed features. We currently have no plans to transcribe this data into any
a
electronic location data. It could be done but would require additional resource and take
n
some time to accomplish.
