Thank you for your email of 30 June 2021, requesting information about advice
provided to other government agencies regarding the proposed changes to the
Births, Deaths, Marriages and Relationships Registration Bill. Your request has been
considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
We advised you on 27 July 2021 that we were extending the timeframe available to
respond to you because of consultations necessary to make a decision on your
request. We undertook to have the final response to you by 25 August 2021.
We are now advising you that we have decided to grant your request, but are unable
to do this by 25 August 2021. We have prepared the draft response but due to the
onset of Covid-19 Alert Level 4, we have been unable to finalise it due to delays in
receiving communications back from Corrections’ staff, as well as officials from other
agencies.
We will finalise our response as soon as possible, and will send it to you at the
earliest opportunity. Please accept our apologies for this further delay.
Should you have concerns with this decision, I encourage you to raise them with
Corrections. Alternatively, you are advised of your right to also raise any concerns
with the Office of the Ombudsman. Contact details are: Office of the Ombudsman,
PO Box 10152, Wellington 6143.
