Thank you for your request of 1 June 2021, requesting information about staff and
volunteer incident reports at Northland Region Corrections Facility. Your request
has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You requested:
In the interest of clearing someone's name, I would like to request the staff
and volunteer incident reports from Ngawha Prison, between the years 2012
and 2015.
Your request currently lacks due particularity as required by section 12 of the OIA. In
order for us to consider this request further, please provide information about the
specific documents you seek. This may be names of individuals, or details of specific
incidents.
Please note however, even if you are able to limit the scope of your request to a
specific incident or incidents, Corrections has statutory obligations in accordance
with section 9(2)(a) of the OIA, to protect personal information we hold, including that
of our staff, volunteers and people in prison.
Further, in the event you are seeking all incident reports involving any staff and any
volunteers at Northland Region Corrections Facility over three years, please note
this request would be very difficult to meet. An initial search has identified 5,197
events at Northland Region Corrections Facility from 2012 to 2015. In order to
identify and consider all relevant documents for release to you, we would be required
to manually review a substantial amount of information. In accordance with section
18(f) of the OIA, a request will be refused if the information cannot be made without
substantial collation or research.
