Information Request – Number of callouts to Nelson College 2011-2021 
 
I refer to your official information request dated 23 April 2021 asking for the following 
information: 
 
“How many callouts have there been to Nelson College located in Nelson in the past 10 
years (2011-2021). 
 
How much has this cost the school (considering most callouts would be false alarms).” 
 
On 24 May 2021, you received a response from Amelia Dalley, Manager Official Information in 
which we provided information to answer the first part of your request. We also extended the 
deadline to provide information for the second part of your request, because consultation was 
required to make a decision on your request. I regret the delay in supplying this information. 
 
Fire and Emergency’s records show that Nelson College has paid $1,150.00 in the past ten years. 
The $1,150 charge was for a third or subsequent false alarm call out within a rolling 12-month 
period. It was paid by the College in 2013. Please note, Fire and Emergency has not charged for 
false alarms since 2017 as Fire and Emergency no longer has the ability to charge under the Fire 
and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
