Thank you for your request for official information, received on 18 March 2021 regarding Mental Health
Care Service Use.  The Mental Health, Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) has
provided this response for Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, and Capital and Coast District Health Boards.

Questions:

1.  For Community Mental Health; Child and adolescent metal health; and (Te Haika) Mental
Health Crisis response:
• Number of distinct new entries/cases per month, by age group (five year bands if possible*),
2015 – 2020 calendar year • Number of total new entries/cases per month, by age group (five
year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year • Number of distinct cases open at month end, by age
group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year • Number of distinct exits per month, by age
group (five year bands if possible*), 2015 – 2020 calendar year • Number of total new exits per
month, by age group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year

2.  For the DHB:
• Number of hospitalisations for mental health per year, by age group (five year bands), 2015 –
2020 calendar year • Number of people waitlisted to see a psychologist per year, by age group (five
year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year • Number of people seeing a psychologist, per year, by age
group (five year bands), 2015 – 2020 calendar year • Number of psychologists employed by the DHB
at year end (split by part time, full time, contracted) by year, 2015 – 2020 calendar year

*Five year bands are ideally 0 – 5, 6 – 10, 11 -15, 16- 20, 21 – 25, 26 -30, etc. If there is too much
suppression in those age bands can it please be in ten year age bands.

We then clarified some aspects of your request with you on 23 March 2021:

• may I please have the data on the Crisis Resolution Service, rather than for Te Haika

• Number of hospitalisations for mental health per year: yes please can I have the data for the
acute adult inpatient units and for younger persons acute inpatient service.

All our mental health teams operate in a multi-disciplinary team model and a range of health professionals will be involved in service users’ care. Psychology is one
part of our model of care but we do not operate waitlists for specific disciplines. We are declining this aspect of your request because the data does not exist.
