Dear Mr Esler 
On 2 March 2021, you made an Official Information Act (OIA) request about two addresses in Timaru. 
You asked for the details of the square metre size of the properties and the rents being achieved from 
the houses. 
Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities has a duty to protect the privacy of its customers and 
therefore, we do not comment on details about our properties that could affect our customers’ privacy. 
This is particularly the case when requests are made through a public website like FYI where 
information remains publicly available for many years.  
As you have not provided a signed privacy waiver from our customers, I am declining your request 
under Section 9(2)(a) of the OIA to protect the privacy of natural persons. I have considered the public 
interest and see no public interest in the release of this information. 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this response.
