Thank you for your email  of  4 February 2021  to the Ministry of Education requesting the 
following information:  
• I would like to make a request for a list of vendors that have provided data science
services to the Ministry of Education in the last three years.
Your request has been considered under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act). 
Please note, we have defined the term ‘vendors’ in your request to refer to companies who 
have provided data science services to the Ministry to support Ministry operations  (e.g. 
contracting for advanced analytics services). 
While the Ministry wil  continue to engage contractors where specialist knowledge and skil s 
are required, we are commit ed to reducing our resilience on contractors and building more 
capability within the organisation. As such, internal capability for Data Science Services has 
been a focus for the Ministry, and therefore we have engaged very few vendors for these 
services over the last three years.  
There are four vendors which have been identified as providing data science services to the 
Ministry to support Ministry operations over the last three years: 
• GNS Science: Consultancy
• TextFerret
• Taylor Fry
• Motu
