I refer to your email of 21 December 2020 in which you request the following under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA):
“I am writing under the Official Information Act to request any documents relating to the
UN resolution A/RES/75/169 "Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other
practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination,
xenophobia and related intolerance" and New Zealand's vote on the resolutions at the
United Nations in December 2020.”
On 10 February 2021, we wrote to you to extend the time for making a decision on your
request, by 20 working days, to 10 March 2021.
Attached are the documents relevant to your request. We have withheld some portions of the
documents under the following sections of the OIA:
•
6(a): to avoid prejudicing the security or defence of New Zealand or the international
relations of the New Zealand Government; and
•
9(2)(a): to protect individuals’ privacy.
Please note that we may publish this letter (with your personal details redacted) and enclosed
documents on the Ministry’s website.
You have the right under section 28(3) of the OIA to seek a review of this response by the
Ombudsman.
