Dear Anita

Request made under the Official Information Act 1982

Thank you for your e-mail of 24 November 2020 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):

Can you please provide any information you hold about any consideration by you or any
other agency, now or at any previous time, about making advanced stop boxes
enforceable.

The following information falls within the scope of your request and is publicly available online on
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s website at https://www.nzta.govt.nz/walking-cycling-and-public-
transport/cycling/cycling-standards-and-guidance/cycling-network-guidance/designing-a-cycle-

facility/intersections-and-crossings/signalised-intersections/cycle-storage-facilities/.

Instead of pursuing a regulatory response to improve issues with Advance Stop Box compliance,
Waka Kotahi have looked at a design solution which is outlined in our Buffered Advance Stop Box
Design Guidance Note (Attachment 1), which will be published online shortly.

If you would like to discuss this reply with Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, please contact Simon
Kennett, Principal Multi-modal Advisor, by email to [email address].

Yours sincerely
