[IN CONFIDENCE RELEASE EXTERNAL]

Mr Anatoly Kern
[FYI request #13637 email]
Dear Mr Kern
Thank you for your further request, made under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), of
29 September 2020. You referred to my response to your previous OIA request, and
requested:
The same statistics about deaths of the receiving carers (for the same period).
In my response to your OIA request of 1 September 2020, I provided you with the number
of child support cases closed due to the death of the non-custodial parent, per year, for the
last 10 years. I also provided you with the number of those cases where the child was no
longer a qualifying child.
I have therefore interpreted your current request to be for:
The number of child support cases closed due to the death of the receiving carer, per
year, for the last 10 years.
The information you requested is shown in the table below. The table shows the year Inland
Revenue was notified of the receiving carer’s death; the relationship is then ceased based
on date of death.

As I mentioned in my previous response of 29 September 2020, Inland Revenue is generally
unaware of the cause of a customer’s death.

[IN CONFIDENCE RELEASE EXTERNAL]
If a child is no longer a qualifying child, we would no longer consider the parent they live
with to be a receiving carer. There would therefore be no cases where a child support case
was closed due to the death of the receiving carer and where the child was no longer a
qualifying child.
Thank you for your request. I trust that this further information is of assistance to you.
Yours sincerely
Sue Gillies
