I refer to your Official Information Act request dated 28 July 2020 where you requested information from Hawke’s
Bay District Health Board (HBDHB). Your questions and HBDHB’s response is provided below:
1. How many CT scans have been outsourced to private providers per year the past 3 years?
2017-2018 NIL
2018-2019 NIL
2019-2020 864
Note: Data provided is based on the financial year 01 July to 30 June.
2. How many CT scans have been outsourced to private providers this year so far.
From 01 July 2020 Hawke’s Bay DHB has outsourced 100 CT scans.
3. What percentage of the patients being referred are Māori?
2019-2020 – 14 percent
2020-2021 – 10 percent
Note :
Percentages are based on those people referred to HBDHB’s Radiology services, with stated
ethnicity of Māori and Cook Island Māori recorded in the DHB’s Radiology Information System
(RIS).
People referred for scans that are not provided by the DHB’s Radiology service are not
recorded in the DHB’s RIS system, Therefore, the DHB is unable to provide ethnicity data for
outsourced radiology referrals.
4. What is the most common CT scan being outsourced?
The most common CT scan being outsourced is CT Chest-Abdo-Pelvis.
5. What is the average cost per CT scan referral?
The average cost per CT scan referral is $713.75 (cost of scan and report).
